Husker Do – ‘Cats Look To Get To Magic .500 Mark In Lincoln

Wildcat fans are sitting up in their chairs. Northwestern (12-8,3-4) is looking to do something very rare in the Bill Carmody era, or any era for that matter. A win today over Nebraska (10-10, 1-6) at 2pm ct on ESPNU, and the ‘Cats would move to 4-4 in B1G play, and obviously move to .500. Sure, it is the mendoza line of mediocrity, but for Wildcat Nation, a .500 mark is the unofficial symbol of breaking through. With a completely loaded B1G conference, the nation’s top-ranked basketball league, a .500 mark in conference play (9-9) is pretty much a surefire ticket to get to the Big Dance. But, we’re getting way ahead of ourselves. I think I speak for many of you when I say that the ‘Cats being 4-4, with this team, after 8 games wasn’t even on the dream radar.
The ‘Cats are 5-1 on the road this year and have played much better away from Welsh-Ryan Arena. They can’t explain it, we can’t explain it, but we only hope it continues. Don’t kid yourself, though. Nebraska and their fans are eyeing this one as one of those few “gotta win” games and are likely confident that they can take us down. The Huskers have had a rough go of it only beating Penn State, the conference’s punching bag this season, while getting their doors blown out regularly. The Illini blasted them by 20, Ohio State crushed them by 26, but they did give Sparty and Wisconsin all they could handle in close losses.
We’ll keep this post up during the game for your comments and hopefully will have a lot to be happy about heading in to the middle third of our schedule. And, should NU win, they move the all-time series with Nebraska to .500 as well (would be 3-3), a rare feat for our program.
