‘Cats Hoops Slam Arkansas Pine-Bluff, Move to 3-0

Northwestern’s home opener was played under a lot of drama. The breaking news of Kevin Coble’s side of the quitting the team story in Sports Illustrated today hovered over the ‘Cats game at Welsh-Ryan earlier tonight. The circus show around tomorrow’s Wrigley game and the craziness surrounding the teams playing one direction was even more of a buzz. Neither of it distracted the men’s team as they throttled Arkansas Pine-Bluff (0-3) 71-45 in a game that wasn’t even that close.
John Shurna and Drew Crawford each led the way with 17 points as NU blitzed out to a 44-25 halftime lead. JerShon Cobb nabbed eight boards and is starting to work his way in to shape. The ‘Cats have a week off before cranking up the competition level with a home tilt vs Creighton next Sunday night and then Georgia Tech following that. Click here for the NU recap.
How about the Big Ten? Illinois downs Maryland and Minnesota upsets #8 North Carolina. It’s going to be a heckuva tough year in the conference. Wow.
