We’re going to start this morning with just a few bullet points to prime the pump for what will be the last hours before we know our January 1, 2013 bowl opponent, which will be announced on Sunday. We’ve got a few news, notes, opinions and some content previews of what’s ahead.
LTP Content Guide
We’ve been posting once per day the past two or three days and that is about to change. Thanks to the 9-3 ‘Cats getting mostly overlooked on the media and coaches All-Big Ten awards, save Jeff Budzien (1st team/second team) and Venric Mark (2nd team), I’ve decided to stage our own awards. We’ll have all types of zany categories along with the staples like MVP, greatest play, biggest surprise, newcomer of the year, unsung hero, best playcall and the like. Feel free to start adding your categories and thoughts in the comments section below. Later today, we’ll give it up for the Northwestern University Marching Band (NUMB) as our NUMB alum diehard, Britanny Petersen makes her return with a guest post. We’ll be previewing and recapping the ‘Cats – UIC hoops contest tomorrow and of course on Sunday we’ll have commentary on our bowl destination. Next week, we’ll be rolling out our next year’s worth of proposed website changes and taking your input in to consideration as well!
Big East Champs – A ‘Cat Victim
Thanks to Rutgers blowing a lead to Louisville in a game involving three different conferences, Syracuse now ends up tied at 5-2 as Big East co-champs. As I tweeted, thank you ‘Cuse for making our non-conference schedule seem a whole lot better!
Barnett & Colorado
With the coaching carousel in full swing, their was one interesting NU connection. This Denver Post article interviewed Gary Barnett on what he’d do to kind of help get the CU program back on track. Amazingly, no mention of his work at Northwestern made its way in to the piece.
B1G Coaching Landscape
Thank heavens, Tim Beckman is staying in Illinois. This is fantastic news for NU and the near term for recruiting and a whole host more of brand building. With Purdue firing Danny Hope, I’m not too in tune with what happens there as the Boilermakers are off the schedule for the next couple of years. You do wonder if Mick McCall will become a head coaching candidate with any of these positions across the country.
2014..Who Will Be First?
WildcatReport.com reported that 2014 LB, Justin Phillips, a LB from Pearland, Texas, received a scholarship offer from Northwestern. It was Phillips’ second offer, as Oklahoma State was first man in. There is obviously a ton of 2013 AND 2014 recruiting going on right now and you wonder who the 2014 Malin Jones will be – as in first commit for the ‘Cats, perhaps a full year out.
