‘Cats Land ’13 LB Ray Davison

It won’t bring a smile like a 30-point win over Michigan State, but Northwestern fans could use ANY good news to try and take a bit of the sting out of the soul crushing weekend. Chris Emma of Scout’s PurpleWildcats.com offerred this tiny pick-me-up with news that Northwestern has ended a very long recruiting drought by adding the 18th commit to its 2013 class with LB Ray Davison, of Crespi, California. The ‘Cats had been in pursuit of the 3-star LB since the spring and Davison had NU atop his list all along, but couldn’t wait any longer – the academic edge put him over the top. Davison chose NU over Boise State, Colorado State, Iowa State, San Diego State, Navy and Nevada among others.

The ‘Cats 2013 recruiting class has been getting high marks and the word from insiders were there are only a few slots left and for obvious reasons CB has been a priority. Jaleel Hytchye, a DB from Cincinnati has been right there with Davison as the most likely to commit next to Northwestern. Ray, we’re thrilled to have you as part of the Northwestern community and hope you can help us turn the pain of days like yesterday in to joys of playing for the division and conference title.

Congrats to Mr. Davison on joining the NU football family. I hope Fitz, being the defensive guru from a playing standpoint, continues to recruit more playmakers, especially in the secondary. You can see, esp. this year, that the D has improved and I hope to see it blossom into a perennially dominant unit with his tireless recruiting.

I feel a little better a day after the Big House disaster…I’m ready to see the ‘Cats go into East Lansing and come out with an academic win…9 wins (and maybe a joyous 10th) would be a great leaping point heading into next season, no matter how difficult the schedule may seem. I just hope something clicks in the coaching staff and players that enables them to close out key wins moving forward. That as much as anything would be a indicator of progress from the fball program.

Anyone know how many Secondary commitments we have?

    0.

    Shocker.

Who WOULDN’T want to play for a legend like JB?

Believe we have two guys recruited as “Athletes” who could potentially play Safety for us…not saying that’s enough given the secondary is clearly our #1 need position, but the class isn’t completely without DB options. Plus we often move WR recruits to DB so we could do that as well.

Yes, Queiro (awesome offer list, great size) and Harris (also multiple B1G offers, good size) are both being recruited for DB. I hope these classes (Van Hoose, Henry, Dwight White, Queiro, Harris) will finally bring the depth we need at DB to complement the DL talent in order to be a legit B1G contender.

Just judging based on it being the position of greatest need, CB Jaleel Hytchye might be the most important recruit left on the board. He has an impressive offer list and if the Cats can sign him in February, he would be a great addition and perhaps a kid who could make the two-deep as a true frosh.
