It’s a rare mid-April double dip post today, but well worth it. First off, as Off Tackle Empire contributor and LTP regular “Chadnudj” pointed out in the comments section, our very own Matt Alviti has been named to the ESPN150 list. This is one of the handful of highest accolades in the high school football recruiting world as it lists him as one of the top 150 players in the entire nation. Alviti is ranked the third best dual threat QB by ESPN and #113 overall. He is also Northwestern’s only recruit and thus NU has one member of the elite group which ties it with the likes of Oregon and Virginia Tech. By contrast, Michigan is abolutely killing it in recruiting having already net 11 ESPN150 members. There are only seven ESPN150 players from Illinois. Here is the link. The B1G has 20 commitments on the list, but Northwestern is the only school not named Ohio State, Michigan or Penn State to represent in our conference. Hopefully it stays that way with our total number going up! Take a peak here.
Land of Lincoln Battles
If you’re wondering which of the other top in-state recruits Northwestern is in the mix for then recruiting guru EdgyTim has your answers. The ‘Cats are still in pursuit of QB Aaron Bailey, superstar RB Ty Isaac (Malin Jones’ teammate), DB Darius Mosely of O’Fallon High School and Thornton DB Jalen Banks. Click here for the blurb which I essentially cut and paste above. Chris Emma of Scout.com earned some positive feedback from Rockford Boylan HS’s Sean Slattery, a kicker, who is getting courted by NU, Iowa and Indiana among others.
Updated Alviti Highlights
Matt Alviti’s highlight reel from Monday was of his sophomore season. Rivals.com has posted a new, mouth-watering version of the do it all QB. Take a peak here (sorry I was unable to embed it in this post!).
2014 Recruiting Head Start
WildcatReport.com’s Louie Vaccher has a great feature on Garrett Dickerson, a stud 2014 prospect who is the physically bigger, but younger brother of Spring Game star Cameron Dickerson. Garrett holds an offer from NU and Cameron obviously is filling his ear with positive NU-ness, but seeing as we were offer number one and the likes of Oregon, Miami and some of the sizzle schools are calling, it is far from a sure thing. Dickerson is a 6-4, 240 pound DE who actually just made his first visit to campus this past Saturday at the Spring Game. Great stuff Louie!
BC = OT “U”
Rivals.com gave some love to one of our 2012 non-conference opponents, Boston College, naming them Offensive Tackle “U” or “OTU“ for short. The award is based in part on the NFL caliber tackles they’ve churned out in recent years and part on the expectation it will continue. According to Rivals.com we should weary of the next in line, Emmett Cleary. I’m just so damn relieved that Luke Kuechly is gone at LB.
Nebraska’s Rex Burkhead & Potential Heisman Chatter
Adam Rittenberg poses the question that Cornhusker Nation continues to ponder this offseason – what will it take for fan favorite Rex Burkhead to get Heisman consideration? Anytime I see positive articles about the Huskers I automatically jump to the conclusion that the sea of Red is already lined up at Ryan Field with pitchforks ready to avenge our fantastic win at Memorial Stadium in 2011. Here is the link on Burkhead.
