Spring Cleaning – Pitch the Fax Machine

We’ve got some news and notes to kick off Good Friday, but first, it’s time for some spring cleaning. Our fearless golf legend, Luke Donald, had a rough first day at the Masters yesterday, but, man, it was almost tragic. By now you likely know the Wildcat alum shot a 75 which has him in 64th place despite being the world’s top-ranked golfer. However, you might not know, that thanks to a smudged fax (btw, who the hell still even uses fax machines?), he came close to being disqualified. It turns out his “5” on the par 3 fourth hole (a three putt) was misread by an official and erroneously entered in to the scoring system as a “3”. As you can read here in an ESPN.com article, the matter thankfully got resolved and Luke has a chance to begin a comeback today.

Spring Game

Mark it down. Tell your friends. Then be ready to convert them to season ticket holders. The Northwestern Spring Game (all caps as this is an event, folks) is Saturday April 14 (kickoff is at noon). The lots open at 8am for tailgating and there is a full line-up of events including a football clinic, a “halftime” speech by Fitz and a postgame “Cooldown with the ‘Cats”.   It also marks the deadline for season ticket renewals.  I’m looking at next week as a great way to launch us down the path of getting to 200 NEW season ticket holders as part of our LTP Pack Ryan Field Purple Challenge. We’re currently at a paltry “9”.  This is a great way to get new season ticket holders by sampling the product, getting to meet the players and the familial atmosphere of the Spring Game (don’t forget to mention the kickass home schedule that includes Nebraska, Iowa, Illinois, Vanderbilt, BC and Indiana). Again, email me at laketheposts@gmail.com when you convert someone in to NEW season tickets and we’ll give you a shout out here.

Here is the official info from NU on next Saturday’s event:

Registration is required.  Click Here for full details.

Noon – Wildcat Football Spring Exhibition – This is your first chance to see the 2012 Wildcats in action.  While at the stadium, fans will have the opportunity to check out the view from various seat locations. Account Executives will be on hand to discuss seat availability. Fans will even have the opportunity to hear from Head Coach Pat Fitzgerald at halftime.

Postgame – Cool Down with the `Cats – Approximately 15 minutes after the exhibition, fans will be invited onto the field to cool down with the `Cats, take pictures and get autographs from the team.

Practice Notes:

The ‘Cats were in full pads yesterday with a slew of recruit in the house.  According to PurpleWildcats.com’s Chris Emma and Wildcatreport.com’s Rodger Sherman, the defense has been really impressive so far with multiple young guys jumping off the page for their athleticism.  Obviously, this is always a double-edged sword as it implicates the offense, in some ways. However, Emma has really been impressed by one of the few veterans, LB Roderick Goodlow. Deonte Gibson continues to get love for always being in the backfield. Both have been impressed by DB Jimmy Hall whose vicious hit on Kyle Prater last week still has the media buzzing. Zack Oliver continues to raise eyebrows at the QB spot along with Trevor Siemien. It’s pretty clear we’ll be platooning a two QB set this fall.

Big Ten Stuff

If you want to be the smartest guy in the room then be sure to check out the just-released Big Ten 2012 prospectus which you can link to here. Thanks to the B1G’s Scott Chipman and staff, it has schedules, rosters, stats and overview prospectus capsules for all 12 B1G teams. Also, mark your calendars for Big Ten media day and the annual luncheon (which is a blast) which will be July 26 and July 27 2012.

Wow I find it hilarious that the PGA uses a fax machine. I don’t even know where to find out anymore…..

  • Philip Rossman-Reich

Also don’t forget that if you cannot make it to Ryan Field next Saturday, the Spring Exhibition will be aired on BTN or, at least, streamed on BTN2Go.com.

“Zack Oliver continues to raise eyebrows at the QB spot along with Trevor Siemien. It’s pretty clear we’ll be platooning a two QB set this fall.”

LTP, are you saying that we will likely see 2 QBs on the field at the same time or that we will likely see a 2 QB rotation or something else?

  • TK

Any LTPers going? My uncle and I have gone the last few years and would love to sit by some people. Warning: we’re doing our 20 mile runs for marathon training before hand so we might stink a little. We’ll just stew in Mustard’s and stand outside for a bit before we sit down.
