Weekend Primer – Wildcat Practice Begins Monday, ‘Cats Land Hoops Recruit, Big Sailgate News & Single Game Tix Go On Sale Then As Well

Happy Friday everyone. Rivalry week is just about done. The line on the BC game has already moved from NU as a 7-point dog to the ‘Cats being a 5.5 point underdog. Kind of crazy considering practice BEGINS on Monday.  It is time to start concentrating on Northwestern as day one of Persa watch gets underway in Evanston. Practices are closed to the public and media will be under tight watch on the Persa front. A couple other tidbits to wind down the day:

Sanjay Lumpkin is a Cat

Chris Emma of Scout.com reported that 6-6 guard, Sanjay Lumpkin of Wayzata, MN is the newest commit for Bill Carmody.  As you can read on colleague Sippin On Purple’s post, Lumpkin was recruited by mid majors and Ivy Leaguers but had looks by Stanford and Illinois among others. Let’s hope he’s no repeat of a certain Mr. Basketball from Minnesota if you know who I’m talking about! Welcome aboard Sanjay.

Single Game Tickets Go On Sale!

Monday is not only opening day for fall camp for Northwestern, it also marks the beginning of single game ticket sales for non-conference games. That is a sexy way of saying get your Eastern Illinois and Rice tickets on Monday! OK, joking about it isn’t going to help move the needle. However we’re still 400 SEASON tickets away from reaching the LTP goal, but I’ve got a new idea floating in front of Mr. Polisky which could move the needle.  Single game tickets go on sale on August 22 which means we have between now and then to ensure that Michigan fans don’t jam the phone lines and squeeze us out of seats. I swear we should give callers a Northwestern football test to vet out the enemy. Sparty fans, Wolverine fans and several other teams will be leveraging their LARGE Chicago fan bases to try and beat us to the punch. If you can’t get your friends and neighbors to bite off on season tix, then get them to buy up at least one or two single game tix! Direct your friends here to NUSports.com for more.

Sailgate News!

We have a fourth boat! Scott Sloane has worked tirelessly to make it happen.  It WILL SELLOUT quickly and we are launching sales next Wednesday August 10.  Get ready. We are also hoping to sell tailgate only tickets as well. We’ll lay it all out on Monday.

More to come on the  week that was tomorrow morning. Have a good one everyone! Oh yeah, next week is Miiiiiiiiichigan week on LTP as we have the Wolverines and Cornhuskers left on our themed week campaign. Then it is 24/7 NU. The ‘Cats coverage is about to get cranked up many notches.  Fingers crossed for no injuries this camp!

When Sailgate is over, like that night or the next morning, someone needs to be writing articles about it–sports magazines, newspapers, Northwestern alumni magazine. It’s pretty phenomenal. Wish I could be there.

Is there an end of camp scrimmage this year?

  • wildcat6

Michigan checked in at #29 on presnapread.com a couple of days ago.

Here is the updated listing of NU opponents and their rankings by Paul:

    Michigan 29
    (‘Cats 35)
    Iowa 38
    Michigan St. 41
    Illinois 57
    Boston Coll. 62
    Army 77
    Minnesota 92
    Indiana 103
    Rice 105

We’re still waiting on Nebraska and Penn State. I’ve got to believe Penn State will appear in the next week or so – the mid 20’s. Nebraska will likely be a top 15 team. We’re also still waiting on Ohio State and Wisconsin, two of the ‘Cats’ no-plays. Purdue showed up at 76.

It has been announced that the scrimmage will be closed to one and all. Why Fitz Why??? Also agree with VACat that the Sailgate needs to be brought to the attention of the local and national media. Hope for some TV coverage of the Wildcat boats and the 600 man/woman march to West Point.

    @willycat-
Indeed rather draconian approach by the Head Coach to close the scrimmage not to mention practices. Would indicate a new wrinkle perhaps in the “O”, or the fact a Heisman Candidate’s post injury rehad process is not quite as far along as many associated with the program might hope… Guess I remember the good ole days when we were a Top 20 level team under Barnett and the coaches would almost welcome you practice this time of year… Ah yes, the good ole days…

@LTP- You seem focused on that Vegas Line for BC… Could be some significant churn up and down when the general public gets a look at Danny running and throwing in practice… That and the fact the pro gamblers who make book, figure out BC ain’t half bad with the top two players pre season in the ACC on either side of the ball…

  • DT

    “Candidates post injury REHAB process…
    My bad…

  • Wildcattack!

I would wager that there’s a wrinkle in the O involving Kain Colter that they want to keep under wraps to help them against BC with something the Eagles won’t be prepared for.

wildattack, I just don’t believe that secret plays will have very much to do with the BC game outcome. Barnett even allowed one and all into his pre Rose Bowl practices and secret plays including having Bates at QB worked just fine.

I’ll be at Sailgate with HD camera in tow. I will at a minimum provide footage to the Fitz Show… and maybe feed off some clips to the local media.
