LTP's successful string of Friday Purple Mafia posts has come to an abrupt end. For now. Sadly, I must report today's guest was unable to complete the Q&A and thus, the interview will be postponed to early next week. Sincere apologies for no pay-off on the teaser! Awkward segue to...Big Ten surfing.
I found MGOBlogs "Greg Schiano was almost RichRod" story fascinating. Check it out here. It got me thinking about coaching seniority. Joe Tiller is retiring at the end of the season and there is a distinct possibility JoePa could call it quits as well. In the event both of these happen, Fitz would be among the most senior coaches in the Big Ten behind only Tressel and Ferentz. How crazy is THAT?

More misleading Wildcataganda. Ron Zook has coached three seasons at Illinois, so Fitzgerald is behind him by any possible metric. Further, Bielema assumed control of the Wisconsin program after the 2005 season, a good six months before Fitzgerald's unfortunate succession. Seventh going on fifth... HOW CRAZY IS THAT????
@oops - you are correct - I missed the Zooker - somehow I blended his first two year debacle of 1-15 conference play into one year. However, please note I'm assuming fans know that Fitz would be tied with Bielema for seasons coached (3 at end of this year). Not going to split hairs over off-season date of hire.
As of end of regular season 2008, if Joe Pa goes...total seasons coached:
Ferentz - 10
Tressel -8
Zook - 4
Fitz - 3
Bielema - 3
Dantonio - 2
Lynch - 2
Brewster -2
RichRod - 1
Hope-0
Wildcataganda - proud of it. Inaccuracy on missing Zook, not so proud.
