Recruiting Round-Up and Powerless Rankings

Recruiting Round-up Cliff Notes
Be smarter than anyone at your watercooler by taking a few minutes to scroll through what fellow Big Ten bloggers are saying about their respective recruiting classes. Thanks to MaizeNBrew for compiling/hosting...check it out here.

My weekly pain infliction, errr, obligation to my fellow Big Ten Bloggers is here...there is a nugget of football if you can get through this.

Big Ten Power Rankings
1. Purdue (-) (21-5, 12-1) The game of the year of the week tonight for Purdue against in-state rival Indiana. DJ White may be out so you know the Hoosiers may just "phone it in". Go Boilers. Purdue looks to win its 12th straight game.

2. Wisconsin (+2) (21-4,11-2) The Badgers are back on track with two wins after the home loss to Purdue including a thriller in Bloomington. Three-way conference call that buzzer beater.

3. Michigan State (+1) (20-5, 8-4) A horrible week as Sparty drops two, but they move UP in the power rankings as I spank the Hoosiers for embarassing the conference.

4. Indiana (-2) (21-4, 10-2) Shame on you Indiana - you're REALLY surprised that the guy you hired amid NCAA allegations did, tisk, tisk, the same at your university. Go back two spaces and you should fall more but I have a reputation to uphold!

5. Ohio State (-) (17-9, 8-5) A loss to Michigan with a RichRod halftime diss speech -yikes. A season ruiner for Buckeye fans.

6. Michigan (+2) (8-17, 4-9) How the hell does an 8-17 team move up to the middle of the Big Ten Power Rankings? By winning three in a row, something only Purdue can say in a very top-heavy conference.

7. Minnesota (-1) (15-9, 5-7) Bubble city.

8. Iowa (-1) (11-15, 4-9) No need to worry, the NU goodwill tour is coming your way to give you some much needed life.

9. Penn State (-1) (4-8, 12-12) All smoke and mirrors at this point. Some excellent coaching going on in Happy Valley. It could be MUCH worse.

10. Illini (-2) (3-10, 11-15) With the Badgers on Wednesday and the suddenly hot Wolverines, the Block I is quickly fading into a lower case "i".

11. Northwestern (-) (7-16, 0-12) The bad news is this is the BETTER of our two basketball teams as the women hoopsters are (4-22, 0-14). Time for a clean sweep at the top. Have we told you about our softball and lacrosse programs enough yet?

LTP Mailbag

Thanks for the great email responses on the Purple Mafia Profiles. I recently received one from a reader whose father attended every game from the fifties through the early eighties (no word yet on whether "the streak" was the cause of the move) and the son gushed about the impact of NU football games on his family. They even have their dock at their summer place painted with a Wildcat mascot. It got me thinking - bring on the photos and stories of NU-dom. I'd love to use this as a forum to truly SEE how diehard you are.

I've also been outed by several emailers who also claim to have been at 11 of 12 games in 1995. The gauntlet has been thrown out there - anyone who was not a staff member or player who attended -and can prove - they were at all 12 1995 games, please step up. Ryan Farney, class of '96 shut me up with this proof of purchase....
