Big Ten Blogger RECAP - Week 5

LTP put out the call and like most teams do against us - the fellow Big Ten Bloggers stepped up with some big time creativity and quite the integration of some great You Tube eye candy. Away we go...

1. Michigan turned to Russell Crowe (successfully). ND went with Regis (unsuccessfully). Imagine your team is in desperate need of a pregame pep talk (no imagination needed at NU). You can bring in anyone in the world. Who do you turn to and why?

The answers ranged from Jesus Christ (Nittany Line) to Vince Lombardi (BSD) to the most obscure, Corey Taylor. I know you're asking who the hell is Corey Taylor - apparently a lead singer from Slipknot and Stone Sour who resonates with the Boilermaker Nation via the lyrics. Kudos to Off The Tracks for the obscurity award of the week for going, well off the tracks. It is almost as if collusion was in place as Penn State blogs all forbid Lou Holtz from ever getting in on this honor. The Buckeyes kept it close to the program with the likes of Woody Hayes(BBC) and Joe Laurinaitis (Buckeye Lane) for his starting lineup introductions in the Northwestern game last week. Kudos to Gopher Nation for the wink, wink, Bill Murray (get it?) and the plethora of Caddyshack video clips.

2. What perception about your program is perpetuated to the point where it is your pet peeve? Why does it bother you so much (no, the answer does not have to be an alliteration)?

Black Shoe Diaries ripped me for using smarty-pants words, but much like I have a school's reputation to uphold, the Penn State blogdom unanimously claimed the same pet peeve "antiquated offense", but then earned my favor with their equally unanimous self-deprication "it's kinda true". A lot of post-Michigan lost angst coming out of BSD, Run Up The Score and There is No Name on My Jersey. Likewise, Buckeye Nation united on the "we're not criminals" battle cry and put up some pretty good stats to back it up. Personally, I think Tressel is the perfect fit there. His professorial image is just what Buckeye fans should want since he is squeaky clean AND an incredible coach. Buckeye Lane still bristles at the references to the 2002 pass interference call. At Purdue the "we're only offense and that's all we've ever been" is the pet peeve.

In case you went into a shell after the OSU game, LTP went on and on about, cough, cough, respectability - in particular vs Illini in this state.

3. It is only week 5 of the season, but you've been asked to create your team's highlight reel for the season. You get to choose one song. What is it and why?

Theme of the day here was cheese. As in velveeta, baby. LTP went Journey, Gopher Nation went with Kenny Loggins (easy on him - he kept the Caddyshack thing going), Buckeye Lane went Wonder Years, and my personal favorite - Penn State's Run Up The Score - he went with an entire genre - 80s Monster Ballads and provided the commercial as well. His brethren at BSD and Nittany Line went a little hostile with Move Along by the American Rejects and Adam Sandler's Ode to My Car. Bonus points to Nittany Line for creatively replacing the word "car" with "offense". Explicit lyrics warning here.

Good work gentlemen. And thank god for You Tube.

It's all about the video and the band with the reference to Mr. Taylor. I'm not a violent person and that song would make me ready to rip out someone's soul.

Of course I could have tried to have Jay from Jay and Silent Bob give the speech...
